Hartlaub and Wagaman win big on Rivalz Racing League opening night.

Twenty-four drivers locked in to iRacing Rivalz Elite launch January 22nd.

January 8, 2019, BURLINGTON, ON – The Rivalz Racing League kicked off its inaugural season last night with a spectacular iRacing double header. Pennsylvania sprint car standouts Kody Hartlaub and Troy Wagaman jr. collected opening night wins, but 24 drivers had reason to celebrate when the final checkered flag flew. The highly anticipated iRacing series welcomed nearly 100 racers to compete at the famed Knoxville Raceway and Eldora Speedway. On the line was bragging rights along with 24 qualified spots into the Rivalz Elite series kick-off January 22nd at 9 pm.

Hartlaub quickly established himself as a driver to contend with this season. The sprint car racer led every lap of his heat and the feature after also setting fast time in qualifying early in the evening. His win wasn’t uncontested, but Hartlaub was up to the challenge of his rivals.

In the second event of the night Wagaman waged a torrid battle with front-runner Kevin Loveys for second place behind Hartlaub before a skirmish for position dropped Hartlaub to the middle of the pack. Wagaman continued his duel with Loveys through the end of the Eldora feature, but Loveys couldn’t stay ahead of Wagaman, and he settled for second.

While winning was the ultimate goal every driver in the event was after the security of a guaranteed spot in the Rivalz Elite Season Opener on January 22nd. The top 12 racers from each session punched their tickets to the event with 24 more qualifiers being taken next week.

“We planned on opening our season this week,” said Rivalz co-founder Clinton Geoffrey. “We had so much interest that we decided to make the first two weeks qualifying events.

“When the season officially launches on January 22nd we are going to have a first class field of drivers.”

Action continues on Tuesday, January 15th, when races three and four of the Rivalz Racing League lock in another 24 racers in the Elite division. Eldora Speedway and The Dirt Track at Charlotte will play host to the events, and the top-12 finishers not already qualified will earn their spots in the January 22nd event.

“Once we know the 48 drivers guaranteed a spot in our Rivalz Elite opener we will introduce our weekly format to the drivers,” said Rivalz co-founder Adam Ross. “Every Tuesday between now and the end of May we will open our event with the Rivalz Gauntlet. The Gauntlet is the last chance for drivers hoping to race that night in the Elite show. “We expect to announce even more events moving forward, but for now this has created an amazing buzz in our racing scene.”
